Back to school - Term 3 edition!

With a week to go until school starts, how can you make this term as easy as possible for everyone? Well, while we can't guarantee things will always go smoothly, there are a few things that may help.

Nerves are natural

Remind your kids that it's ok to be excited, or a little bit nervous, when going back to school. If there are still some really big feelings that your child is trying to process, having a chat and problem-solving with them is really important.

Sleeping soundly

Bedtime routines are crucial for getting a good night's sleep. You might like to consider a consistent evening routine such as a shower/bath, brushing teeth, and a story. For older children, ensure they are turning off their device at least 30 minutes before bedtime. Not getting enough sleep may be linked with lower academic achievement, as well as higher rates of absenteeism.

Healthy eating habits

Starting the day with a healthy breakfast can set the tone for the rest of the day: tummies are full and brains have been given the nutrients to help your child learn! Try to include at least one serve of fruit or vegetables in your child's lunch each day, and challenge them to drink their whole water bottle and fill it up before home-time.

Sometimes just a few tiny tweaks to what you are already doing can make a huge difference!
